Biometric technologies enable governments and large enterprises to improve security, increase efficiency and reduce identity fraud by a strong binding of identity to an individual. There has been a significant increase in activity related to biometric system deployments from state to national level in India and abroad. Although the strategic value of these systems is clear, real world implementations have to address challenges related to design and architecture of the system, management of privacy and security of data, performance monitoring, and standards.

L-BIMS 2011, jointly organized by CDAC Mumbai and IIT Gandhinagar, will bring together experts and stakeholders from government, industry and academia to discuss challenges and solutions which can help in making these projects successful.
